Nine Grants Pass teachers receive grants to advance student learning

Nine Grants Pass School District 7 teachers have been awarded student enrichment grants from Josephine County Foundation. Since 2014, students have awarded grants to local teachers to advance student learning in unique and creative ways.

• Lincoln Elementary School: Daniel OK-Carr received $2,335 to purchase five sit-to-stand desks.
• Parkside Elementary School: LeAnna Williford received $1,000 to purchase chair pockets, stools, seat cushions, carpet dots, and flashlights for flashlight reading.
• North Middle School: Jason Wright received $1,000 to upgrade and replace pickleball equipment.
• North Middle School: Kinzi Nolen received $2,500 to create a ceramics program for the 2024-25 school year. 
• Grants Pass High School: John Kellogg received $1,000 to purchase a set of games for his Video games as Literature class.
• Grants Pass High School: Aaron Mathews received $1,500 for a student-led "Adopt a Family" program.
• Gladiola High School: Paula Bontrager received $947 to purchase five "rocking chairs" for students in the GPASS program.
• Gladiola High School: Gary Miller received $1,000 to replace aging cooking equipment for his foods class.
• Gladiola High School: Jalynn Dinkins received $1,327 to support her gardening class. 

About the Student Enrichment grant program

The idea is to give teachers the opportunity to apply for funds that they see their students would benefit from and give a special opportunity to the teachers to get out of the traditional ways of learning in their classrooms.

Who knows what excites and motivates students to stay in school more than students themselves? The Enrichment Program increases students' interest in school by providing a wider array of education opportunities including: field trips, guest speakers, classroom supplies, and equipment for special projects such as music and vocational programs.

The Student Enrichment Program provides students with a broad exposure to areas that might spark a passion for learning or going into a particular field. The feedback has been incredible and only encourages JCF student members to keep serving our community!
