Fresh fruit and vegetable program expands to every elementary school
The USDA's Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, or FFVP, is now in every elementary school in Grants Pass School District 7. Each week, students are provided free fresh fruits and vegetables as a mid-morning snack. The items are different each week depending on the season and availability.
The goal of the program is to introduce children to new and different varieties of fresh fruits and vegetables while increasing the consumption of fresh, unprocessed produce.
Here is a small sampling of of the items Grants Pass students have been introduced to in 2022-23:
Baby bok choy
Green globe grapes
Each week, students learn recipes, history, and other fun facts about the fruit or vegetable being offered. The program is made possible through a grant from the USDA. You can learn more about FFVP here.
